Settled in 1200 B.C. and abandoned around 850 A.D., Cahal Pech is one of the earliest Mayan sites in Belize and was once the palatial home of an elite Mayan family.
Your journey to this incredible site begins as you are picked up by your expert tour guide in Belize City at your Hotel, the Municipal air strip or the Water Taxi Terminal. Take a few minutes to marvel at the colonial architecture and city highlights, then pass small farms and charming Creole villages as you make your way to Cahal Pech.
Upon arrival, your Belize tour guides will lead you through the myriad of courtyards, temples, and residential buildings that make up the Cahal Pech compound. This site contains an impressive 34 buildings, including a structure that is 23.5m (77 ft) high. Gaze up at a monument that was the earliest carved stelae discovered in this area of the Mayan lowlands. Don't leave the site before climbing up one of the temples for beautiful, panoramic views of the compound, as well as the city of San Ignacio in the distance.

After learning all about our ancient ancestors, we drive to a local restaurant in the San Ignacio town to enjoy a Belizean cuisine. After this yummy treat, you head to the Belize Zoo for the next portion of your of our combo adventure.
You will head to the Belize Zoo for an incredible adventure meeting lots of new animal friends. Get up close and personal with entertaining zoo animals, the fun begins as you step into Belize Zoo's lush 84 acre tropical savanna and discover its unique history. Founded in 1983 as a way to house animals used in documentary films, this national zoo is a popular Belize excursion and has over 150 animals - many of them orphaned, rescued, rehabilitated or received by other zoological institutions.
The clean, spacious habitat enclosures allow the animals to live close to their natural environment while allowing you an up close view of them. Your Tour Guide will check in at the ticket booth then you enjoy a brief introduction to the zoo.
Watch spider monkeys at play, note the graceful walk of the deer and compare 2 different types of crocodiles and several species of native cats who call this zoo home. Hike along and see the wild pigs, the national animal of Belize and variety of other exotics.
All good things must come to an end, after the delightful visit you will board your transportation for the quick hop over to your drop-off location .
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing (quick dry apparel is recommended), flat-soled walking/hiking shoes. A hat, sunglasses, bug spray (insect repellent) MUST and sunscreen is also suggested.
Guests must be able to get in and out of transportation. Any guest with limited mobility should reconsider this tour as there are many flights of stairs to climb at the ruins. This is a tour which requires a moderate fitness level, it is conducted in the jungles of Belize and includes hiking and climbing at the Maya Ruins. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.
